2011 Race: Group tackles Oduoye
Nov 30th, 2009 | By osunmail | Category: Lead StoryA strong political group in Ifelodun Local Government is all out against Senator Simeon Oduoye’s plan to return to the National Assembly in 2011.
The group which is known as Majeobaje within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) according to investigation by Osun Mail is planning seriously to nail Oduoye’s political fortune in the local government.
The former Military Administrator of Niger and Ebonyi states, now representing Osun Central Senatorial District got the senatorial ticket on a platter of gold due to the miscalculation of Senator Felix Ogunwale who opted out of the race to vie for the state governorship seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Ogunwale is now a member of Action Congress (AC).
But the anti-Oduoye’s group vowed that the former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) who had been tagged several names such as ‘Asiyan, Baba Alagbado, Ku-ku-ku’ cannot get his second term as a senator because the entire Ifelodun community did not benefit anything from him as a senator.
“Oduoye is not helping Ifelodun except probably his immediate family. No one can go near him. His wife is also a thorn in his flesh. Obtaining PDP’s intention form is to us a wrong step and we will resist him”, a source told Osun Mail.
But Osun Mail reliably gathered that in spite of this opposition to Senator Oduoye, he was being strongly supported by Ifelodun Council Chairman, Hon. Sarafa Awotunde and the PDP Chairman in the Local Government, Alhaji Sule Adeagbo.
Hon Awotunde along with about four others in Ifelodun that included Engineer Kola Olaniyi, Arch Lekan Usman, Chief Moshood Oluawo (Mosadek) and Professor Adekunle Okunoye from Iba also obtained forms to contest the House of Representatives seat Bodipe/Ifelodun/Odo-Otin federal constituency.
The incumbent lawmaker representing the federal constituency from Boripe, Hon. Kayode Idowu is also showing interest.
It was gathered that Alhaji Adeagbo is eyeing the chairmanship seat of Ifelodun Local Government.
Osun Mail learnt that opposition is seriously mounting against Oduoye who is from Ward 3 as he was only attempting to block Ifelodun from producing a member of the House of Representatives.
“If you look at it, Hon….. from Ifelodun was our representatives between 1999 to 2003, late Hon Oluranti Alabi from Odo-Otin from 2003 to 2007 and Hon Idowu from Boripe from 2007 to 2011. So, see what Senator Oduoye is doing. This is a man who did not spend a kobo for his election into the National Assembly. We know those who spent the money”, a member of Majeobaje stated.
Senator Odunoye will be contending with Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Reverend Bunmi Jenyo for the PDP senatorial ticket.
Osun Mail learnt that the Majeobaje group had already pledged their loyalty to Governor Oyinlola and had indeed met him for discussion.
The meeting, it was gathered took place on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Oyinlola’s residence in Okuku with a top chieftain of PDP in Ifelodun Local Government leading 20 others to parley with Oyinlola.
Detail of the meeting with took place between 10 and 11 pm was scanty but the governor was said to have frankly discussed with the group during a dinner organized for them.
A source at the meeting told Osun Mail, “Well, the outcome of the meeting was satisfactory and we are ready to work with Governor Oyinlola but Senator Oduoye is going nowhere”.
