Re-run election -Oyinlola saves Omisore

 But for the timely intervention of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ijesa leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could have abandoned Senator Iyiola Omisore to carry his election re-run burden.

Osun Mail gathered that at a PDP meeting held at Chief Ebenezer Babatope’s home in Ilesa, Senator Omisore was accused of not bringing dividends of democracy to his constituency during the six years he spent at the National Assembly.

The crucial Ijesa Elders Caucus meeting with Governor Oyinlola and Senator Omisore was called to strategize and rally support for the former Osun State Deputy-Governor, on his senatorial re-run election fixed for December 5, 2009.

Some of those at the said meeting were Chief Babatope, Chief Duro Famojuro, Chief Apara, Deputy-Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Sunday Ojo-Williams, Hon. Wole Oke and some of the PDP governorship aspirants in Ijesaland.

The aspirants Osun Mail gathered are Chief Remi Olowu, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, Alhaji Lateef Bakare, Chief Tunde Odanye, Chief Femi Alafe-Aluko, Chief Dosu Fatokun and Alhaji Fatai Sarunmi.

It was learnt that Senator Omisore was told to explain the gathering in the presence of the governor what he brought to Ijesa zone of Osun-East Senatorial District during the period he was at the Upper Chamber.

Senator Omisore reportedly gave account of how he distributed vehicles, motorcycles and how he was using his Micro-Finance project to assist people in the senatorial zone.

But hardly had Senator Omisore landed when he was accosted by barrage of questions and criticisms by Ijesa leaders who told him that nobody had benefited from his largesse from Ijesaland and that those listed for his Micro-Finance assistance have not been able to access the fund.

But even before the meeting, some party leaders have been expressing their displeasures towards the attitude of Senator Omisore who came to the meeting with four jeeps while Governor Oyinlola drove himself in a Camry Toyota car, it was learnt.

To douse the tension, Osun Mail gathered that Governor Oyinlola had to jokingly speak in Ijesa dialect saying ‘Yesi o gbe ko’, meaning ‘whom did you give them to’.

Governor Oyinlola it was learnt further at this stage intervened urging the leaders to forgive Senator Omisore but rather work for his return for the sake of the party in the senatorial district.

Senator Omisore also tendered his apology to the Ijesa leaders promising to make up for any mistake when he returns to the National Assembly.

Besides, Hon. Oke also defended Senator Omisore and asked his people to give him support during the re-run election as ordered by the Appeal Court.

At the end of the meeting, all differences were resolved and it was agreed that everything will be done by Ijesa PDP to see that Senator Omisore get his return ticket to the National Assembly.
